Rob Heron and the Tea Pad Orchestra

Here’s something a bit different from what I usually cover on here. For all of you partial to a bit of old time gypsy-swing folk music, it can be difficult to find contemporary artists with a bit of style that can and do actually write their own tracks, rather than just imitating what’s come before. I give you Rob Heron and the Tea Pad Orchestra.

LAFARO - EASY MEAT

Lafaro are a band that we’ve been hearing more and more about over the past few months, and today is the day that they release their sophomore full-length to the masses, along with news of a joint UK tour in November with none other than our old pals Hold Your Horse Is.

Shield Your Eyes - Volume 4

Volume 4 is the latest release from one of the most interesting bands around - Shield Your Eyes.

Due out on the 17th of October, this has got to be one of their finest albums to date.

Otherpeople - Memory Gag

A lot has changed since we first came across Otherpeople in November last year.

Back then, a search for the band name would return… well, not very much. Nowadays they’ve been (finally) attracted the attention of some other well-placed musical people, getting a coveted slot for up-and-coming bands on the T-Break Stage at T in the Park, as well as their latest EP hitting Number 2 on the NME’s ‘buzz list’ (whatever the hell that is).

Future of the Left - Polymers are Forever EP

Future of the Left have had returned. After the rather shock news that angry singer/bassman Kelson Mathias had left the raging power-trio, the band have taken a bit of time to take stock and get their house in order. The culmination? A change of record label, and 6 track EP to boot… an album entitled the plot against common sense to follow in 2012.

Excited? Good.

Will Hanson - Moving A Body

Will Hanson’s hop from his hometown of London, to New York, to Glasgow is one that is rather intriguing. Why on earth would someone ditch the Big Apple to head for a relatively tiny Scottish city? I mean, no arguments from me about it being one of the greatest places in the world, but on paper it doesn’t make much sense.

United Fruit - Faultlines

United Fruit are the latest band to have been gathering some steam and attention round the alt-music scene in Glasgow, garnering some decent support slots along the way. Infact, it was when they shared the bill with Artrocker friends Mojo Fury that we first spotted them in person.

Wayter - Feeding Time

After becoming rather enamoured with their single Twenty a few months ago, we’re pleased to see that the four-strong fuzzy alt rockers Wayter are back with a full LP.

Pulco - Small Thoughts

Former Derrero member Ash Cooke aka Pulco is releasing his seventh DIY folky album this month, cobbled together from a vast array of strange and more conventional sounds.

Kaiser Chiefs Invite Fans to Create DIY Album

The Future is Medieval - released 3rd June 2011 - compiled by fans

One of the more interesting results of the huge shift from physical to digital formats over the past 15 or so years is the myriad of new and creative ways that record companies and PR firms are having to come up with to persuade you to part with your hard earned cash. Whilst fans of smaller, indie bands rarely take issue with actually buying new releases, those that come from the bigger acts can often be seen as fair game for downloading on the sly.

Radiohead famously challenged us to pay what we wanted for their efforts with In Rainbows, and now Kaiser Chiefs are the next household name to get the music buying public in on the action - not by choosing the price this time, but rather, tailor making the entire album to how they want it.

We at Artrocker.com have been given a sneak preview to create our own take, which you can download, as well as finding out all the details on this latest twist in the music-consumer relationship after the jump…
