From what I understand, England / the UK still has Kings and Queens who make national decisions for their country. Sounds kinda like a dictatorship 2 me. Anyways, there is some dude named Prince Charles who is waiting to be King, but he is all old, and the Queen is still alive, so he just gets to party and bang chicks.
I think he went to Glastonbury Music Festival to try to reach a new demographic of voters: Young UK alts who listen to the XX, MUSE, and Coldplay.
Damn near the last minute I was given a chance to attend this year’s ATP NY (I’ll be covering it for Gothamist all weekend) and I have to say I don’t think I’ve been this excited about a musical weekend in ages! With bands like The Flaming Lips, Deerhunter, and Animal Collective all on tap and crazy concoctions like Bob Mould with No Age (performing as Hüsker Dü) and the Boredoms doing a 9 drum BOADRUM, this is gonna be a crazy weekend! It starts tonight with several legendary performers reprising classic albums and a highly publicized reunion from The Jesus Lizard that we are especially amped for! Here’s what I’ll be catching tonight (full review tomorrow hopefully!) and you should join along. I’m skipping the comedy stage, most of those guys are from the area already.
3:15pm: The Drones
The first act to take the stage this weekend are from Australia and are here to promote their upcoming album (which just happens to be on ATP Recordings). Even though they are promoting a new album they will be performing Wait Long By The River And The Bodies Of Your Enemies Will Float By in its entirety. I’ve honestly never really listened to their music so this will be a new experience for me, but since they are the first band of the weekend they will probably get my undivided attention and a lot of my bubbling energy!

This song is ridiculous in the best way possible, sounding like the Ronettes if they had a heavy diet of indie rock — it’s the second single off of their new album.
News and info is pouring in on this year’s summer music festivals and for us in the upper midwest there’s a lot to look forward to. Here’s an update on some of the fest happenings and a tentative schedule of where I’ll be this summer.
All signs point to this year’s Pitchfork Festival being absolutely out-of-this-world incredible. They’ve only announced a fraction of the bands that will playing and I’m already drooling from how great this will be. I definitely applaud the move to lose the ATP/Don’t Look Back thing on Friday and replace it with all-request shows from legendary artists (I’m ridiculously excited for Yo La Tengo and Built To Spill).
The fest is adding many more repeats this year but thankfully it’s some of the best bands that have played like The National, Grizzly Bear, and The Walkmen (if this keeps up this year could be seen as a P4k’s greatest hits of sorts). The fact that the weekend of July 19th is Celeste and myself’s one year wedding anniversary makes this all the more special.
Have you forgotten the way to your lover’s heart? It’s through their stomach you idiot. I should know – I’m massively overweight, but I am also a great lover.
