We finally wave bye bye to 2009 with our final two wonderful guests - Hatcham Social and Grizzly Owls

The DRUMS give us the low-down on their album picks of 2009
Polly Scattergood - "Please Don’t Touch"; There are worse things in the world then watching this Polly Scattergood video that’s for damn sure. With just her lovely self and her adorable voice she makes this video pop off the screen. The music and her beauty are obviously enough to sell this package so why mess it up with anything more creative then that?

There is no possible way to see all that you want to see at SXSW. There just isn’t. And it’s impossible to keep up with who is playing where despite ones’ best efforts so you have to just kind of wander around with very little plan and hope you find something good. Luckily, I went to a show out at Ms. Bea’s (which is becoming one of my new favorite places this year) and caught The Yellow Stereo favorite The Pains of Being Pure At Heart , who actually played their set on the ground to the left of the stage.
I was really excited to see 8 bit shoegazers The Depreciation Guild tonight when they play with super-hyped, big-thing-for-next-2-months The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart at The Middle East tonight. But you know what? I am too goddamn tired to go to that show. 2 shitty nights sleep, waking up early, and two long days of work make me have almost zero desire to go out tonight. So instead, I present to you the at least year old creepy ass video for The Depreciation Guild’s "Nautilus" which can be found on both their free Nautilus EP (download here) and their free full length, In Her Gentle Jaws (download on their website).

If you happened to attend any of The Pains of Being Pure at Heart shows from earlier this month, you may have gotten a chance to see their tourmates, The Depreciation Guild. Both bands couldn’t be more different from one another, but they happen to share one tiny detail that probably isn’t known until you’ve actually seen both of them in person: Kurt Feldman, who is one of the main members of The Depreciation Guild, is also currently the drummer for The Pains of Being Pure at Heart.
Now, I knew of this from interviews and such, but didn’t check out their debut album, In Her Gentle Jaws until it was recommended by a person from the video gaming spectrum of the world. I’m sure this begs the following question: Why would a nerdy gamer recommend I listen to this and not some music aficionado? Well, it makes more sense once you actually listen to them, as this Brooklyn duo (or trio?) build their sound around the use of the classic 8-bit Nintendo console. This isn’t the first time that a band has done this, but the for the most part musicians trying to incorporate this have come off as incredibly gimmicky and lacking in any kind of substance.
