Abe Vigoda news

Man’s Assassination, Man

mans-assassination-man-2.jpg

Man’s Assassination, Man make brutal, crazy punk so hardcore DIY that the drums sound like they were swiped from some munted demo tape from the early ’90s that was ripped to shreds in a crappy boombox then painstakingly pieced back together again. Brothers Bill and Jon Gray of The Mae Shi, Greg Arnold of  Residual Echoes and Of Aire with Adam Payne and Justin Hunter comprise California’s sassiest mutant punk hybrid, and are every bit antagonistic and aggressive as you’d expect from their previous band credentials.

Cold Pumas - Proof Of Man + Jela

Cold Pumas’ "Jela" starts at a tempo of 192bpm. It’s difficult to see how you go anywhere other than on from that point and, as ears anticipate, the track hurtles along irresistibly, wave after wave of guitar rush and oddball drumming harnessed to the extent that things start to move so fast they appear to slow down. Furtive vocals sense an opportunity and start to float up out of the scrap, dodging the traffic of guitar treble.

Bands that I did not listen to in 2k8

At the beginning of 2k8, I made a post about bands I did not listen to in 2k7. Now it is 2k9, and I will make a list of bands that I did not listen to in 2k8. It is important to understand that you are a consumer in a wide open marketplace. You allegedly have tons of options, with lots of music 2 listen 2. However, it is important 2 recognize that u usually ‘judge a band by itz name’ kinda like how u ‘judge books by their covers.’ If a book has a zany/boring/confusing cover, you will not buy it. The same theory applies to band names.

Abe Vigoda

Abe Vigoda were well received last year, and seems to be a little under credited to me, now that I have actually gotten to listen to Skeletons in its complete form. But what seems to be even more amazing than their past is the shift that has taken place between then and their Reviver EP, due out Feb. 17th. Though the band frolics in their accelerated, frantic rock, there has been revealed in the songs on Reviver a more defined thought process. The fact that they have slowed down says a lot. "Wild Heart", which lasts for 5:30, has monopolized my headphones since I first listened to it on this past, overcast, weekend in LA. The energy still remains whole heartedly within the music, yet is redirected and reveals a nostalgic side of the group that until now was hidden under an incessant need to be dialed a good twenty miles faster than the average human being. Make way for new and better changes in 2009.
