We finally wave bye bye to 2009 with our final two wonderful guests - Hatcham Social and Grizzly Owls

The Vivian Girls
Here’s the next batch of our top 100 records list for 2009. Our favourite albums of 2009, our favourite singles of 2009, our favourite tracks of 2009 - they’re all in here mixed together. Well, numbers 80-61 are anyway.

So we’ve published our own ‘best of 2009’ list. Now it’s the turn of some of those bands we featured to let us know theirs.
First up is The Vivian Girls, who pick out a fine top 10 of garage pop and lo fi fuzz. Nodzzz, Mika Miko and The Beets are particularly fine selections I think.
There’s a lot to be said for reverb. A veil of mystery, a lacuna in which anything the listener chooses might be written. The cavernous echo of white-hot Sixties pop, the Flying Nun groups, Galaxie 500, My Bloody Valentine – consciously or not, the Vivian Girls follow in this proud heritage. “Our songwriting is pretty straightforward, so shoegazey production is the only tool we have to make our music more of a struggle for the listener”, says singer/guitarist Cassie Ramone.
As if arbitrarily ranking one’s favorite albums of the year isn’t an absurd enough task, we leave you for the weekend with our favorite songs of 2008. Check David’s list at the bottom of the post…

The signs are that it is going to be a very busy night. The headliners are this week’s hot new darlings from New York and the hype surrounding them has started to spill over from fan boy websites into the mainstream media. Let’s be honest, it’s why I’m here too.
