The scuzz-rock heavyweights Future of the Left have announced that founding member and bassist Kelson Matthias has left the trio. Despite coming mid-may, this is still filtering through to fans - the band reportedly "sad, happy, annoyed and relieved at the same time."

The full line up for Truck 13 has just been announced and it’s looking as choice as ever. One of our favourite festivals, Truck scores points for keeping it ecclectic without compromising the quality and for allowing their local vicar to sell ice creams. Rock n roll!
The line up includes acts of genius like Pulled Apart by Horses, Fists, Future of the Left and Redlands Palomino Company and many many more bands guaranteed to entertain. They’ve just started selling day tickets, so why not treat yourself?
Here’s the line up…

Matt Bigland from the mighty Dinosaur Pile Up takes his turn to give us his take on the top 10 (err, well.. 9) acts of 2009.

Christmas might as well be here now. The rest of December should be abolished so that we can get to the New Year quicker and back to more clement weather. However this would mean I couldn’t tell you about my top 3 articles of this year by…err…me. So without further ‘ado’ here’s my Future of the Left article from the June issue of Playmusic Pickup If there’s a more articulate, passionate, sarcastic, friendly and angry man in music today than Andrew Falkous formerly of mclusky, now of Future of the Left, then I haven’t met him yet.

So here is our top 20 records of 2009 list. I use the word ‘genius’ a lot on this page, but I’m not going to apologise for it. Because it all is.

We’ve been going on about them all year - now the mighty Pulled Apart By Horses take turns to tell us what rings their collective bells.
After spending a week at the CMJ Music Marathon I was a bit worried about what music has been presenting us with lately. Most of the bands of that week seemed to be trying to cash in on trends, sounding eerily similar to each other, and blending into a huge blur that was really difficult to differentiate between. Luckily there are bands out there that can remind you of the power of rock music in one fell swoop.

Dananananaykroyd, Die! Die! Die!, Future of the Left, Kasms and Rolo Tomassi at the one festival? Surely not. Infact, I almost don’t want to write anything about the East London artrockfest that is Offset, as my teeth are clenched together with jealous rage. I got a message through my last.fm account detailing who and what the fuss was all about, only to realise that it was taking place the very weekend that I had just agreed to a family gathering, stating “Nothing worthwhile happens in September anyway.” Clearly completely wrong.
The 5th and 6th see this beauty come to Hainault Forest Country Park, Redbridge, London, with a ridiculously cheap price. A festival where I would actually want to go and see bands? I thought it was but a distant dream. It better be this bloody good next year – it’s in my diary already.
More info about Offset Festival 2009 is here – I suggest you go and check it out if you are in any position to – just don’t email me any pictures or I might vomit.

We had the excellent Future of the Left interview from EMJ earlier in the week - then this video interview popped up on Dirty Laundry.
Topics covered include snobby French waiters, the terms of a Mclusky reunion, playing infront of people who hate you, Michael Jackson’s innapropriateness around children, and Margaret Thatcher - discussion of the latter producing my favourite quote from the interview…

To all of those who jumped for joy, and a little bit of shock when they heard that Future of the Left might be supporting Biffy Clyro on their UK tour later on this year, Falco of ‘the Left’ has quashed this rumour characteristically on the band’s Myspace blog.
Biffy Clyro stuck this on a bulletin:
“If the latest offering from the Biffy camp wasn’t enough to get you incredibly excited about the forthcoming UK & Ireland Autumn tour, then the news that two of the hottest bands around will be joining them on their upcoming jaunt definitely will.
The band will be joined by Manchester Orchestra and Future of the Left at all dates of the tour in October and November. For the full list of shows and ticket availability head to biffyclyro.com.”
