I was never a massive fan of Dan Deacon, i loved his sound but found it all just kinda went in ear and out the other, just party music right? It was only after seeing him live at Summertones last week that i really “got” it. Setting up IN the middle of the crowd, talking fast and loud and getting the crowd to participate in ways that i didn’t even think possible, with an enthusiasm and energy that was infectious as hell, i was seriously impressed.
His new LP Bromst, out March 24th, is a much denser, mature record than Spiderman of the Rings. Were i to make a stupid but logical comparison, It’s what Sound Of Silver was for LCD Soundsystem, older, wiser, richer, more experimental and more personal.
Those who have written off Dan Deacon as that “wacky” guy who writes video-game-like party music will have to do a double take.
Snookered is just the second song this year to make me feel both happy, sad and full of hope, the first being Animal Collective’s My Girls. Highly highly Recommended.
So yesterday was the first day since Christmas that I missed my daily post. Working too much. The Salem Film Fest is going on and it’s awesome but quite time consuming. And literally, all I’ve been listening to is Dan Deacon’s new album, Bromst (out 3-24). I know I say things like, "It’s fucking amazing" a lot but fuck, man. Bromst is fucking amazing.
Just thinking about listening to Bromst gets me all happy and excited. It helps chill me out after a stressful day at work, it helps get me psyched for a shitty day at work, it helps me deal with pretty much everything. IT’S SO EPIC & BEAUTIFUL. I never in a million years thought a single record could be constantly exploding confetti but I guess Deacon was the man to do it. And the whole thing has this masterful flow so that you never realize the next song has come on. It all just melts together into one gorgeous giant. I’m pretty sure I’m not going to listen to anything else for the next couple of years.
