MP3 blogs are hotbeds for illegal, leaked MP3s fueled by the hypemachine/googleSEO era. Basically, music blogs are kinda like ‘barely legal’ porn, trying 2 appeal to people who are eager to ‘be some of the first’ 2 feast their eyes on young pussy/twinks/new buzzbands mp3s. Blogger psychology states “If I post barely legal MP3s, I will get mad hits, and people will like my blog because I have great taste and represent a great source of popular buzzbands.”

Whether it’s from phenomenal debut albums or continued greatness from reliable favorites, one thing is for certain, 2009 has already been a very exciting year for music. This is my annual mid-year recap of what I believe to be the best albums of 2009 so far. As I’ve done from this site’s inception, I’m including 12 and a half entries, exactly half the amount I’ll be counting down in my annual year-end list. The twelve albums and one EP (that’s the half) are listed in chronological order and include my favorite albums released in the first six months of ‘09.

This track is all over the place by now, but such a match made in heaven cant be ignored. Bradford Cox (Deerhunter & Atlas Sound) and Noah Lennox (Panda Bear from Animal Collective) have teamed up to produce one of the most gorgeous, bouncy dream-pop tracks of the past few years.

"evenfall" by agnes montgomery
Evenfall is the upcoming LP from Paris’ Sebastien Schuller (out May 25), and the album’s stunning collage cover artwork is by one of my favorite artists, the amazing Agnes Montgomery. You may recall Montgomery’s glorious Pool Party, which graced the cover of Panda Bear’s Person Pitch, and is probably the most uncannily fitting album artwork of, well, ever. Listen to Schuller’s new song from Evenfall, "The Border," at his myspace page. In the meantime, I was somehow unaware of the existence of this cover of Schuller’s "Weeping Willow," by Austin’s Jared Van Fleet, aka Sparrow House:
Atlanta absolutely refuses to stop cranking out solid music. Whether it’s the garage rock anthems of Black Lips, the psych pop sounds of Deerhunter, or the straight up metal of Mastodon they have been cranking out some great tunes in recent years. Well now you can add the synth pop sounds of Dog Bite to the list of top notch talent hailing from Georgia’s biggest city.
I can’t lie and say Dog Bite doesn’t sound like anybody else out there, in fact his sounds are a lot like those of Panda Bear’s or El Guincho’s but dude definitely has a Southern vibe riding shotgun over all the synths he’s laying down. Layered like a mo’ fo’ there is a funky feel to every layered harmony and and button pushed. It’s as if he’s throwing just a little bit of extra soul into his music.
Panda Bear’s ethereal beauty "I’m Not" takes a dark turn courtesy of St. Louis’ phaseone, whose eerie, brooding beats recall the work of Flying Lotus, Burial, and the darker side of Dilla.
