Favorite Albums of 2009 (so far)

Whether it’s from phenomenal debut albums or continued greatness from reliable favorites, one thing is for certain, 2009 has already been a very exciting year for music. This is my annual mid-year recap of what I believe to be the best albums of 2009 so far. As I’ve done from this site’s inception, I’m including 12 and a half entries, exactly half the amount I’ll be counting down in my annual year-end list. The twelve albums and one EP (that’s the half) are listed in chronological order and include my favorite albums released in the first six months of ‘09.

The Daily Graboid

Dirty Projectors3

As you may have noticed, along with the lack of posts going on around here, the Graboid has seemingly disappeared as well the past couple of weeks. To catch everyone back up to speed, I’ve decided to post the album releases from the past few weeks that we’ve missed along with everything from this week. I’m sure I may have missed some releases, but I think I’ve covered most of the important stuff for the most part. As usual, let us know what album(s) you’ve been excited about and if we managed to forget anything!

Boy In Static - Young San Francisco (Montag Remix) + Original

"Young San Francisco" is the lead single from Candy Cigarette, the new album from bedroom pop twosome Boy In Static due April 17th through Fake Four Inc. Working with some toy piano and taught violins, dudes put up a recession-deying pop jawn with this one, something like Patrick Wolf without the flare of hot pants. On the exclusive tip, Montreal producer Montag reworked the song into a Human League-biting synth track, shrills and arpeggiated bass dropped wherever needed (everywhere). Grab both tracks below, and lookout for the single release today, backed with additional remixes from Styrofoam and Miwon Sankt.
