fantastic plastic - now that’s what we call music vol. 1
Released: Mon, 2007/12/03 on Fantastic Plastic
ARTROCKER RATING:
Despite having a title that is extremely similar to a popular compilation series and one which may cause fans of cheesy chart fodder to accidentally pick this up by mistake, but there’s no real reason why anyone should find a complaint with this LP. Even the cheesy chart fans. For their 100th release Fantastic Plastic have compiled an album to document how the label has flourished since its initial inception, and which takes in sixteen bands from their diverse roster of talent.
Ultimately this compilation serves as the perfect way to get yourself acquainted with one of Britain’s most sorely underrated labels
Early releases by Scottish rockers Astrid and all girl pop punk rockers Angelica stand shoulder to shoulder with those by the much missed Ikara Colt, an early outing by The Futureheads and one from long forgotten scuzzed up garage rockers The Beatings. Meanwhile, songs by Bearsuit, Help She Can’t Swim and Victorian English Gentlemens Club bring us right up to the current day.
Ultimately this compilation serves as the perfect way to get yourself acquainted with one of Britain’s most sorely underrated labels and one that - if the past is anything to go by - should continue to have a very bright future for many years to come.
