various artists - THE filthy horror show

Released: Wed, 2007/10/31 on Filthy Little Angels
ARTROCKER RATING:
Halloween is upon us once more. Unfortunately this means the cinemas will be swamped with torture porn, kids will eat enough sweets to fill the streets with vomit and you’ll spend most of the day running round trying to find a costume. As for me, I was going to go to a Halloween party dressed as Johnny Borrell being crushed under the weight of his own ego, but the thought of scrambling round on the floor like a faux messiah lost its appeal quickly.
The Housewives combine the Young Knives with bossa nova beats on ‘Rose Tint My World’...
Filthy Little Angels wouldn’t need a costume to get into a Halloween party, partly because they’re a record company, but mainly because their name alone would get them past the guest list. Over the past few years they have acquired a healthy roster of up and coming talent which they showcase via downloadable singles and regular themed compilations.

The latest compilation focuses on the music from the iconic Rocky Horror Picture Show and draws together some of the finest unsigned bands out there in the ether of MySpace.

FLA have allowed each band to put their own unique spin on the stocking clad original, and the results are very impressive. The Housewives combine the Young Knives with bossa nova beats on ‘Rose Tint My World,’ whilst Colette McKendrick has smacked ‘Touch-a-Touch-a-Touch Me’ in the face with some distorted guitars. Meanwhile, Control R have perfectly captured the 50s rock n’ roll style of ‘Dammit Janet.’

Other notable mentions go to Roman Rappak and Ian Simpson who have ensured that ‘Sweet Transvestite’ retains its saucy electro swagger, and to Shock and Awe, who have turned ‘The Timewarp’ into a phaser laden ditty which sounds slightly like Talking Heads. As a result, you probably shouldn’t expect to hear the latter at you local ‘cheese night’ any time soon.

Compilations often raise eyebrows amongst music journo’s, but like pigs foraging for truffles, FLA have uncovered 17 Nuggets of undiscovered musical talent that you’d be wise to ingest. This is possibly the best and only compilation you’ll need to listen to this year and you can download it for free today (October 31st) at this website.
