WILDLIFE: NINE LIVES

Wildlife likes other creatures, especially Super Furry Animals. As such I was happy to get a telegram from SFA headquarters today letting me know that they are in Cardiff working their hairy paws off to complete the recording of their ninth studio album.

The as-yet untitled long player is due for digital release on the 16th of March through ww.superfurry.com, while the physical release will happen on the 13th of April through Rough Trade Records.

Since 2007’s ‘Hey Venus’ band members have been pretty busy with side projects – Neon Neon, The Peth, Acid Casuals – sparking more than a few rumours that SFA were finished but this latest news should shut such gossipers up for a bit.

Of the new album the band say this: "Musically it’s based around riffs and grooves we’ve been playing around with over the last few years. We have enough now for a whole album so even though it’s still very melodic we thought we could leave off the acoustic ballads for the time being."

"It’s recognisable as a melodic SFA record, but is very focused musically as a cohesive album. And no country rock as Daf has developed a pedal steel phobia. Which has confined the great Nashvillian instrument along with the Saxophone to the banned instrument directive of the SFA board. there’s only one slow number which isn’t slow at all."

Pete Fowler and the Japanese artist Tanaami will collaborate for the album artwork. While Super Furry Animals apparently have some more tricks up their sleeves to be announced a little closer to the release date… oo-er!

Here’s a sneak preview into the album – the Working Title Tracklisting
