THE krak

Mon, 2007/09/17 - The No.19 Bus
ARTROCKER RATING:
Nathan Jenson, inspired by Cliff Richard’s film Summer Holiday, has transformed a red 1964 Routemater double deck bus, and will travel from California in Norfolk to California in the United States in aid of the East Anglian Ambulance charity. The bus was the last London Routemaster ever to serve in central London on the prestigious route 19 (Piccadilly, Sloan Sq etc).
“How on earth do you manage to play a guitar whilst stood up on a bus that’s swirling a roundabout?” I’m asked. I have no idea - but The Krak have got it down to an art form.
Also on board, up and coming group The Krak have volunteered their guerrilla gig expertise to give the charity added exposure. The Krak have previously played gigs at London Zoo, Merc Clothes Shop and the Orient Express - so they’re no strangers to unusual settings. Following a long and drunken trip down from Norfolk, Nathan Jenson’s team pick us up from Old Street in Central London. As we set off it is apparent that this gig is going to be very strange. “How on earth do you manage to play a guitar whilst stood up on a bus that’s swirling a roundabout?” I’m asked. I have no idea - but The Krak have got it down to an art form. They play a set full of sing along anthems, which are mainly their own work but also include classics by the cockney duo Chas n Dave. There’s something about The Krak that makes you just love them. They have an old school quality to them that recalls quality 70’s rock bands, like a cross between Kings of Leon and Fleetwood Mac (not a mix you will hear too often but one which really works). Rumour has is their debut single is about to come out on a major- and lets hope so too.
