Cacaw

Kill Me With Your Mind

One of my favourite music blogs Better Than Sex compared Cacaw to legendary punk band Big Black; a comparison that alone made me pay attention as my flatmate is obsessed with the old punk band. Cacaw is another band from Chicago’s underground punk scene; the same scene that is enjoying a surge in popularity due to it’s DIY ethic and willingness to stay true to traditional punk values. The same Chicago scene also lies host to exciting bands like Mayor Daley and Cave.

Much like the other bands mentioned, Cacaw relies heavily on a loose musical structure, building songs primarily around heavy distorted noise and hardcore instrumentation. Driving Cacaw is a heavy bass rhythm, that walks the line between metal and hardcore and tired together with some relentless drumming makes up the skeleton of their music. The other major attraction of this band is from knowing the quality of the members previous/other bands; vocalist Anya Davidson and bassist Carrie Vinarsky are both from Coughs, while Zak Pink Shoes is also in Lovely Little Girls and Kyle is in Slutbarf.

The band’s first EP titled Get A Brain is now available and comes as a screen printed clear vinyl. It can be purchased from Permanent Records.

    Lame-o

Ca Caw sound nothing like Big Black. And Mayor Daley "exciting"? Really? Seriously now?
Chicago's scene died 10 years ago.
