My Device + LR Rockets + The Callas
Buffalo Bar, Highbury & Islington -
> MY DEVICE (Brighton)
OThey seem to be unable to go for longer than 4 beats without changing tack,
time, tempo and whatever else comes to their feverish minds' Each and every
My Device track is a twisting and turning micro epic of mangled energy
forged from a high energy guitar-bass-drums trio. They've managed to survive
the ill fortune of NME's 'breaking band' 2006 with a debut album 'Nervous
System' in order to hone a highly particular and eccentric art-punk blitz of
a sound. A rugged rhythm section of Fugazi elements and post-hardcore/SST
barbed-wire guitar riffs mean that Pixies (and McLusky) comparisons are not
far off. But My device specialise in 'multi-songing' - Count how many
songs-within-songs they cram into the new 14tracks in 35 minutes offering
'Jumbo Fiasco' (Shifty Disco Records)
and you'll be exhausted before half-way. A fiery and fervent offering which
could well match their irresistible live reputation.

> LR ROCKETS (London)
With 2 amazing singles 'London Girls' & 'Prank Caller' already under their
belt LR Rockets are 100mph awesomeness. Part faux-metal garage rock, part
abrasive post-punk artrock it is also hard to take them 100% seriously with
their comic-book antics.
The brand new single 'Personality' on hip Scottish indie Art/goes/pop
Records is searing fuzzed up, and spiked new wave artrock perhaps closest to
flat-out Art Brut, Rocks or Rakes and is their best yet and a taster for a
forthcoming album. These guys are not afraid to rock, that is without
question.

> THE CALLAS (Greece via London)
Lakis and Aris Ionas are brothers. They studied at Chelsea College of Art
and Design, London (MA in Fine Art 2001-02). They have exhibited across the
UK and Europe, and they are The Callas. The Callas are extra-ordinary 'Toy
Art Punk'. They have release the self funded album
'DIY or DIE' (Out of Tune Records)
A minimal 'no-fi' recording of primal garage-punk riffs and clanging drums
reminiscent of the primitive recordings of post punk DIY pioneers Desperate
Bicycles and numerous 60's garage rock lost gems. They are the editors and
directors of VELVET magazine and Athens Contemporary Art Map ... THIS IS
