My Old Kentucky Blog 2008 Holiday Interview Series : Sean Walker of The Delta Spirit

Another creeper this year was Ode To Sunshine by the Delta Spirit. Maybe it wasn’t a creeper really, I was probably just slow on the uptake. Either way, you’ll find it on a whole lot of 2008 Best Of lists. Soulful americana rock-pop that will do your ears and legs good. Their guitarist Sean Walker reports in on his holiday ways and means…

Delta Spirit - People C’Mon
Delta Spirit - Trashcan

MOKB : Any special musical plans for the Holiday Season? Any specials songs or releases?

Sean Walker : No special plans as far as recording goes. I believe our holiday plans entail TAKING A BREAK! Ha. Just alot of touring this year. Its been great however..

MOKB : What have you been working on lately?

Sean Walker : Lately, loosely writing songs when we can or at least when we get a chance to work on them. Talks of recording during our next break has been exciting and refreshing subject to look forward to. It has been a while since we have really been able to get together, relax and play some music..not that shows dont count.

MOKB : What was your favorite album or musician of 2008?

Sean Walker : I cant answer for all of us although I think we can all agree that the recent Randy Newman Harps And Angels album is genius. Can the guy do wrong?! He’s incredible. David Vandervelde-Waiting For The Sunrise, Dr. Dog-Fate, Fleet Foxes, Richard Swift EP- Ground Trouble Jaw, Dawes, My Morning Jacket-Evil Urges, Walkmen- You & Me, Bon Iver- For Emma Forever Ago, list goes on…Most of these are in regular 2008 rotation. Solid stuff

MOKB : What’s the plan for 2009? What secret knowledge can you divulge?

Sean Walker : Plan for 2009: Tour our asses off and hope to possibly record a new record at the same time. Dont tell anyone, were trying to keep that a secret.

MOKB : What is your most and least favorite things about the Holiday Season?

Sean Walker : Least favorite thing about the holiday season would have to be cinnamon. Hate the smell

MOKB : What are your favorite holiday foods?

Sean Walker : Not a fan. I’ll drink the drinks though.

MOKB :Any special holiday traditions?

Sean Walker : Family and friends. Pretty traditional. ha

MOKB : If you could collaborate with one artist this Christmas season, who would it be and why?

Sean Walker : I dont think Tom Waits has done a Christmas album. I’m sure he could nail it. Id imagine his drunk piano could put you in the spirit.

MOKB : Favorite holiday movie?

Sean Walker : Christmas Vacation

MOKB : Santa or Satan? St. Nicholas or St. Paulie Girl? Kris Kringle or Kris Kristofferson?

Sean Walker : Satan obviously for the holidays right? Jack Nicholas. Kris Kristofferson from the Highwaymen.

Delta Spirit : Ode To Sunshine :
