Magic Me Magic Me

Genre: Rock
From: Oakland, California United States

I know very little about Oakland’s Magic Me. Their Myspace site is not particularly informative and doesn’t include any pictures of the band and google is not much help either.

My diligent research has managed to confirm that Magic Me are a quintet featuring members of
The Jim Yoshii Pile-up, and Meanest Man Contest, with names including frankenstuff, the goat, mongoose, quarterbar and special agent crazy flower. I’m confident that these are all pseudonyms unless they’re the offspring of Frank Zappa. I’m also confident in my assertion that Magic Me fit the bill of unknown.

‘Soft Cases’ from the bands first EP (imaginatively titled EP1) sounds like Roxy Music sharing Cars with Arcade Fire while the spirited ‘Pink Howitzer Blues’ from the second EP (equally imaginatively titled EP2) sounds kinda like trad rock put through an indie mincer.

On the strength of the EP1 and EP2 Magic Me’s mid-tempo indie rock may not be distinctive enough to shake the foundation of the music industry or have record labels beating down their doors with chequebooks open but since when has that been an indicator of musical quality?
