1234 festival

Sun, 2007/08/05 - Shoreditch Park, London
ARTROCKER RATING:
With summer finally deciding to show its face, hitting the Shoreditch free festival for some fun in the sun seemed a perfectly good way to get out my Sunday-rock best. Courtesy of one Sean McLusky, the big man at 1-2-3-4 Records, the only issue of the day seemed to be deciding which stage to choose! With 50 bands and DJ’s, there was definitely no shortage of talent on display.
Bono Must Die... should be added to everyone’s To Do List, were fast, rock, crazy, hard and psycho.
Subliminal Girls kicked things off for me on the Weekender Stage, with an insanely hot sound pumped full of synths, sarcasm and feisty guitar riffs. Meanwhile, Selfish Cunt took control of the MySpace Stage, and with that, some reveller’s ability to breathe! Frontman Martin Tomlinson dominated the stage with his camera-loving antics and screeching vocals. They certainly drew in the crowd and kept security busy with the all crowd-surfers. The Whip brought out the indie-rock ravers for a funky spot of electronica, whilst New York-based Shy Child certainly justified their growing popularity, ripping it up and causing a little mayhem. Bono Must Die, who should be added to everyone’s To Do List, were fast, rock, crazy, hard and psycho. Did I mention crazy? And rock? They had the crowd eating of out their hands and just went hell for leather. The temperature finally started to cool, then The Paddingtons were set loose and the heat only rose again. They used and abused, whilst sounding very much like The Clash. Finally, Har Mar Superstar was joined onstage by drummer Fab Moretti of The Strokes for the headline act, and true to form, it was all sex, drugs and rock n roll. Har Mar randomly picked out fans from the crowd and solicited them with lines like “Hey you, is that your girlfriend? I’m gonna fuck her tonight.” And “Who wants to fuck me?” And with each lewd comment, off came a piece of clothing until there was only jocks left, leaving the fans in a frenzy wondering what could possibly happen next! Fab didn’t just sit behind his kit either, getting involved in some comical dancing and pouring a bucket of water over Har Mar Superstar, not to mention sucking on the sweaty amost-naked-one’s nipple! Amongst oldies like ‘D.U.I’, ‘EZ Pass’ and ‘As’, he got stuck into new tracks ‘Tall Boy’ (apparently written for Britney Spears but rejected by her management), and closed the show with the deliciously tasty ‘Brothers and Sisters’. Who knows what he’ll come up with next time!

Surely Har Mar is total shit isn't he?

He's ugly, he's fat, and yet his onstage persona thinks he's a sex god??

    Hilarious!
