Buzzworthy??? Or Not???

Who: Florence and the Machine
Location: London, UK
elbo.ws Ranking: #38

Thoughts: It seems every month or three we get a hot new lady from the other side of the pond invading our iPods and blasting through every Urban Outiftters in town. Who knows where this little trend started but with a list of invading artists that include the likes of Lily Allen, Kate Nash, Estelle, Amy Winehouse, Duffy, and many many more it’s tough to fight the female British invasion going down these days. The latest of these ladies is an artist called Florence and the Machine, though she’s not all that new to these shores as she apparently tore it up during SXSW back in March. But she is new to these ears and she’s also been burning up the elbo.ws charts lately as well which makes her prime fodder for this here column. Fortunately I am loving this music! Whether she’s covering bands like Cold War Kids or Beirut, or doing her own thing, her voice is powerful and never wavers as it shimmers with her strength. God, I’ve been listening to this stuff for a couple of days now and I am loving every minute of it.
Verdict: Buzzworthy!!!

Listen:

Florence and the Machine - "Kiss With A Fist"

Florence and the Machine - "Postcards from Italy" (Beirut cover)

Florence and the Machine - "Hospital Beds" (Cold War Kids cover)
