Mouthful of Bees

Whilst the U.K is swamped with act after act of electro-trash nonsense, peeking past the hills of Minnesota on the other side of the pond, are the rocky climates of Mouthful of Bees. Signed to Afternoon Records, Mouthful of Bees are a joyous post garage four piece that bounce with the bounteous flow of groups like Animal Collective - but with a garage edge reminiscent of indie stalwarts Pavement.

Having released their worryingly titled debut “The End” earlier this year, their sound is as loud, spiked and out of control as their namesake suggests, and the group’s combined talents are stunning.

Drummer Katelyn Farstad’s new gaze drumming builds the fragile canvas for the glowing echo of “I Saw A Golden Light” whilst lead singer Chris Farstad whispers with the sort of delicate rasping of Stuart Murdoch on early Belle and Sebastian.

Not forgetting of course the wild first single “The Now” where Mark Ritsema’s guitar rampantly chases the group through some of the most exquisitely made vintage pop ever heard since, well, vintage pop!

If however you don’t get to hear Mouthful of Bees anytime in the near future, don’t worry. With a sound this good, you’re bound to get stung sooner or later.

    Is it a Simpsons reference?

Is it a Simpsons reference? There have been two occasions where mouths full of bees have been focal points in The Simpsons that I can think of. The first being the classic camping episode when he eats the honey from the hive. The second being "The dogs? Or the bees? Or the dogs with bees in their mouths so when they bark they shoot bees at you?"
