Ahhhh. I love this.
When Jenny Tuite of the Dirty Dishes emailed us at Artrocker.com, there was no extended press drivel or desperate pleadings for promotion, just a simple "Hey there! Review us? Hope you dig it." along with a download link. Beautiful.
This could have gone either way mind you - such confidence is usually an indicator of an arrogance that often comes along with crap music. Occasionally though, it’s from people who know what they’re doing is damn good, who won’t be all that offended if you don’t want to have a listen.
Deer in Headlights is the first track on the EP, and its name initially gave me some cause for concern. It’s not exactly the most original track title on the planet after all, but upon listening, I feel bad for publishing that, as the music itself is seriously good.
Like a thoughtful and less manly Auf Der Mar (see Stolen Apples to see what I mean), there’s elements of everything in here - twisted rocky guitars, competent drumming and creative use of sounds - not to mention a good old beard …and Jenny.. Jenny. She has a softness in her voice that makes you fall in love as soon as the first few notes are sung. I could listen to this girl all day. Know that affection you used to have for the Corrs’ girls in the 90s? Aye, that’s what I mean.
Smashing Pumpkins meets Jack Off Jill meets Frou Frou in this wonderful EP. Go check them out on Myspace.
