Untied States of Whatever

Untied States
Genre: Trance / Gospel
From: Atlanta, Georgia, United States
Georgia’s Untied States sound like two bands battling each other for supremacy. In the dark corner there’s the math rock for those who don’t have a geometry set, the Mogwai meets Pavement of ‘Not Fences, Mere Masks’. In the light corner there’s the old school new wave, the Vines meets the Jam circa David Watts of ‘Holding Up Walls’.
Correction there seem to be four bands in the battle for the soul of Untied States. In the odd corner is the new school prog, the Yes meets Slint of ‘Entropy In The Rehabbed Factory’ (winner of the Devil’s proggiest song title of 2009 award!) and in the noisy corner is the bi-polar screamo prog (does that music genre even exist?), the Thursday meets The Dillinger Escape Plan of the appropriately named ‘Bye Bye Bi-Polar’. It’s like Harry Potter and the Goblet of Mathcore, a fight between good and evil for the soul of the band and it makes Untied States one of the most interesting band’s on the current scene.
Take your sides for the Untied States internal battle of the bands.
