Artrocker.com version 1.0
So, artocker.com is 5 years old today. I thought we were 6, but I checked the files, and found I was out by a year. It feels like we’ve been doing this a lot longer.
5 year olds are apparently characterised by the following:
* still confuses fantasy with reality
* expresses anger and jealousy physically
* uses swear words or "bathroom words" to get attention
* likes to try new things and take risks
* likes to make own decisions
* has a very basic understanding of right and wrong
I’d say that was pretty accurate.
We started the day after Artrocker Magazine launched with a gig featuring Art Brut, Kaito, French Kicks and Help She Can’t Swim at The Marquee in London. Without wanting to come across like a nostalgic twat, it was a fucking brilliant time to be alive and be playing / reporting on rock n roll in London town.
Thanks to the Wayback Machine, you can click here to see what our ‘first edition’ looked like.
While you’re there - have a click around. The double Hives /Ikara Colt review is pretty decent.
Hand coded by yours truly, looking back, our first site seems a fitting counterpart to the ziney black and white feel of the first few editions of the magazine. It was a massive pain in the arse to update though.
We’ve been through a couple of redesigns since then, and we split from the magazine last year. Tonnes of people have helped out - most notably Django, Julia, Karou, Ric Rawlins, Wyldman, Parsley, Delia, Ed Hutchinson, Stephen McLeod & Brad Barrett. I take heart from our many contributors and erstwhile bloggers who give up their time to rant about what they love for no other reason than the sheer joy of sharing new musical discoveries and shooting the digital shit. And in time honoured clichéd fashion, I’d like to thank you our dear readers for continuing to give us your attention.
