PULLED APART BY HORSES GO EIGHT BIT

Which 8-bit console is for you?

Gone are the days of 8-bit video gaming japes with video games systems the size of your grandma's weak bladder and here are the days of CGI online frag fests and vile goring of innocent civilians pummelled into the sidewalk.

The world of video games is much similar to fashion & hard drugs; this is especially true these days when it comes to 'Retro' video gaming. But which of the golden oldies are for you? In this article I will go thru a list of a few of the all time favourites to let you decide which one is right for you.

The breakthrough in technology meant the system could make full use of 2 colours on screen at any one given time which were 'white' and 'shallow white'.
Firstly we’ll look at the ‘Sega Paperdrive’. This fine console first arrived on our shores in 1988 and the system was based around you drawing a video game of your choice onto A4 paper and then sliding the paper into the top glass covered console whilst a flashing light turned itself on and off repeatedly. The system was a revolutionary piece of technological equipment and provided little or no game play what so ever. The system was soon taken of the shelves in England 7 years later in 1995 when it was discovered a controller was not made or included with the console. Secondly we have the ‘Nintendo Armboy’ released in 1989. This was a dedicated strap on arm-held portable system. The breakthrough in technology meant the system could make full use of 2 colours on screen at any one given time which were ‘white’ and ‘shallow white’. Many users complained of faulty screens which made it very difficult to see the game you were playing. Finally we have the ‘Atari Futererycube’ released in 1990. This wonder-machine consisted of a unique 8-bit hologram device know as M.T.F.W.N.P.P.D ‘Moving Tin Foil With Neon Pen Pictures Drawn On It’. This console was probably the finest of the three at the time as it was cheaper than LSD and other hallucinogenic substances were not readily available. So there you have it. The choice is all yours.
