SINGLE OF THE WEEK: YOUNG KNIVES / TURN TAIL (TRANSGRESSIVE)

Mark Corrigan from Peep Show does front the Young Knives - but if we become ignorant to that it’s blindly obvious that Turn Tail is a whimsical delight; subdued, smooth and ultimately satisfying.

They cite ‘The Police’ as influences. He He. And they sound like Hard Fi too. He He.
THE FUTUREHEADS / RADIO HEART (NULL RECORDS) Another sugared gem from the Futurehead delicatessen. Doesn’t get near ‘Beginning Of The Twist’ but it’s still firm, familiar ground. Why were they dropped again? Ah yes! They look like a mismatch of lecturers and six formers, that’s it. MORTON VALENCE / CHANDELIER (BASTARD RECORDINGS) This is how lullabies should sound. ‘Chandelier’ delights with it’s irresistible melancholy and effortless imagery. “We’ll let the ugly disappear / We’ll be waltzing home tonight”. Marry Me Morty, Mort. LATE OF THE PIER / FOCKER (ZARCORP) “Music to have asthma to!” professes the myspace - but unfortunately I had no attack. All synths, little substance. “I want to be your friend!!!” Not with that stupid name you won’t. THE RANK DELUXE / THAT DON’T MATTER (FAT CAT) ‘That Don’t Matter’, with its cringe inflicting cockney swagger, is best left alone in terms of it being anything to listen to. They cite ‘The Police’ as influences. He He. And they sound like Hard Fi too. He He. SEBASTIAN TELLIER / DIVINE (RECORD MAKERS) ‘Divine’ is kinda like Prince jamming with Daft Punk. No actually, that would surely produce a cure for terminal disease… it’s more like Prince jamming with a Daft Punk tribute band. Sexual Seb, sexual.
