all tomorrows parties

Mon, 2008/05/12 - Camber Sands
ARTROCKER RATING:
Artrocker.com recently attended the first 2008 All Tomorrow’s Parties weekender at Camber Sands. We were going to review it, but then we remembered that live reviews are boring and pointless. (Plus, we spent the entire weekend in the fake pub, and saw no bands). Instead, surrounded as we were by the bleeding-edge of contemporary indie fashions, we identified several KEY YOUTH TRENDS, which we present here so that you may suitably attire yourself during the festival season.
BOWL HAIRCUTS ATP was, of course, a highly appropriate forum for the revival of the “bowlie” cut, which provided welcome relief from the ubiquitous short-back-and-sides. Artocker.com says: fabulous! MASKS Newsflash: masks are in (For some reason). The style of masks at ATP varied considerably, with Mexican wrestler masks, animal masks, and masked-ball-type masks all making an appearance. Even the bands got in on the action: Of Montreal were joined on stage by a man in a tiger mask, or so we heard. Artocker.com says: enigmatic! Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket CHECKED SHIRTS Gingham! Plaid! That cowboy-style check that we don’t know what it’s called! The choice is yours, but the message is clear: wear a checked shirt this summer or look like some kind of massive twat. Artrocker.com says: compulsory! ROUGH TRADE TOTE BAGS What says “indie chic” more than a tote bag? A friggin’ Rough Trade tote bag, that’s what. The übertrend of the festival. Artrocker.com says: practical! IMPROVISED PEDAL-PUSHERS Of course, we all love skinny jeans, but when temperatures nudge into the late-20s they can start to get a little uncomfortable. What’s a hipster to do? Why, roll them up to about halfway up the calf in the time-honoured English tradition. Artrocker.com says: breezy! MOUSTACHES Happily, it seems the ‘70s cop look is going nowhere any time soon, and there were a number of highly impressive ‘tashes on display (the best of which we rewarded with a small plastic medal on the Sunday night, because we’re idiots like that). Artrocker.com says: dashing! SHORT SHORTS As we say, it was balmy (not to say barmy) at Camber - a state of affairs which led to the spectacle of skinny indie boys wandering around in hotpants. And why not? If you’ve got it, flaunt it! Artrocker.com says: saucy! FIFTIES-STYLE DRESSES Eschewing the summery floral prints of last year, a lot of the young lady-folk at the festival—perhaps in some kind of subconscious response to the dreaded “credit crunch”, who knows?—were instead rocking the Bree Vanderkampf look. Artrocker.com says: this article isn’t as funny as we thought it was going to be!

    moustaches

It is evidently quite wrong that I wish I could be a cool beardy indie-bloke, can't fail to impress with some facial attire!

However I do think you should put Artrocker says:... at the end of everything now though

    Terrible review. Why no

Terrible review. Why no mention of Ween? etc etc. etc....

  • Dave Tue, 2008/05/13 - 4:40am

    Phew

Thanks for the update. Was about to shave off the moustache and chuck the cowboy shirt in the bin.

    Think I'll keep both.

I can also confirm that there was a high incidence of short shorts at Camp A Low Hum here in New Zealand earlier this year. Maybe I need to dig out a pair of those myself.

    Hmmm, perhaps not.

    Short shorts

If short shorts and the cop look are in this summer, then does that make this manthe sexiest man on earth?
