It's A Living Thing

Genre: R&B / Rock / Indie
From: Brooklyn, New York, United States

Daphne and Martin formed the Vivos (Latin for living I believe) in 2006 after being drawn together by their shared love of The Beatles, The Clash and The Buzzcocks. Their new EP ‘Post Cataclysm Rock’ is out early next week on Filthy Little Angels with five tracks that hop genres with all the dexterity of a skilled surgeon at a vasectomy clinic.

This dexterity is personified by the EPs tongue in cheek title track ‘Post Cataclysm Rock’ which manages to cram in at least three different genres and possibly more I’ve missed. There’s Status Quoesque bar blue boogie guitars, 50s doo wop, nu wave vocals and I could swear I heard a lick of country guitar somewhere in the mix and amazingly it works.

Elsewhere on the EP there’s the pure nuggets garage with a twist of the Velvet Underground of ‘Why Keep Running (Races You Don’t Care To Win)’ while the brilliantly named ‘Legless Dancer’ is an anorak of a song that reminds me of Biff Bang Pow’s ‘She Paints’ and wouldn’t sound out of place on a mid 90’s Creation Records sampler. ‘Bed & Breakfast’ sounds like something John Shuttleworth would knock up in five minutes in a Travelodge on the A54 in one of his more serious moments. Finally ‘Sometimes’ sounds like Nico covering an obscure Beatles b-side and is more adorable than a box of puppies in pajamas.

The Vivos’ ‘Post Cataclysm Rock EP’ is available via iTunes from Monday 6th of July and will be available for FREE for 1 month from www.filthylittleangels.com.
