lovvers

Sat, 2008/04/05 - The Macbeth, London
ARTROCKER RATING:
Swarming though it is with what looks like a horde of bespectacled, American college kids from a Happy Days episode, The Macbeth is not in Wisconsin, but in fact in mullet town: Hoxton. It’s Saturday night and Lovvers have got “Play fast or die” scrawled in Sharpie ink across their guitar. And, guess what? They do. No weekday evening holed up in your bedroom listening to their myspace can prepare you for the maniacal performance these four guys give.
expecting them to stay still long enough to ‘say cheese’ for our photographer is out of the question...
It’s sweaty, dirty, thrashing punk style anthems from a bunch of lads named, very respectfully: Shaun, Michael, Henry and Stephen. Bless ‘em – I bet their mothers never dreamt of such rock and roll raucousness. Hailing from Nottingham, Lovvers give it pretty damn large – throwing themselves about all over the place. The bespectacled college rockers shirk backwards, unsure what to do as Shaun catapults himself into them, singing into their bewildered faces. Lovvers are so ludicrously energetic that expecting them to stay still long enough to ‘say cheese’ for our photographer is out of the question. Don’t expect their music to give you any breathing space either; just clutch on to that pint, hold on to your sphincter muscles and hope to hell Shaun doesn’t come barraging out at you.
