infadels + a.human + THE real dolls
Wed, 2008/03/12 - Manchester Roundhouse
ARTROCKER RATING:
The Real Dolls decorate houses during the day, but by night they don shades and hoods, and become Manchester’s only hip-hop-electro-pop act. Every seedy song of theirs is underpinned by a weird electro synth-line whilst crunchy metal guitars accompany the boisterous rapping of Rod Hotly. Real Dolls get no less odd with every wildly different show, but then they’re never less than top value.
new single 'Make Mistakes' holds New Order's robust pop bollocks well in hand...
Speak to anybody who’s heard A.Human and they’ll instantly splurge words of praise, and rightly so. Dave Human pulls epileptic moves in his glitter cardigan, while the songs recall glam synth-pop without the sugar or irony. ‘Black Moon’ lyrically unwinds breathlessly, sounding like a tale from the eighties’ sordid underbelly. The upcoming album will be ace.
Fizzling from the thrusting of ‘Jagger ‘67’, Infadels explain that they’re very, very happy to be back to be in the city that’s “gonna blow them all away this year”. Although tonight’s new material lacks the bombastic buzz of say, ‘Topboy’, Infadels are still playing to their melodic strengths, with new single ‘Make Mistakes’ holding New Order’s robust pop bollocks well in hand.
“With the acid house!” growls a grizzled veteran from the dance-off halfway back, and the band respond in kind, putting their instruments down for a Pump Panel freak out of 303 dementia. The Roadhouse was home of Manchester’s best little dirty rave-ups, and its fuck-off red levels soundsystem makes Infadels boom with chest-busting bass lines and sirens.
This isn’t some silly casio-bashing colour fest; the Infadels completely missed the boat on day-glo when their debut LP was released in 2006. Instead, they bounce on a constancy of massive choruses, dance whig-outs and the love-making twists that frontman Bnann makes to the front row. Electric.
