future of THE left and pulled apart by horses on 18/05/2009

By the time they came onstage to “Arming Eritrea” – the first track off of the forthcoming album “Travels With Myself and Another”, that possibility was gone. Infact, all thoughts that there had been any bands on the stage beforehand were wiped from memory, as the trio pushed the venue’s PA to breaking point.
Dogged with sound problems, the sheer passion and anger which would have been directed into the microphone was instead taken out on the mic-stand by former Jarcrew frontman Kelson Mathias. It made for slightly uncomfortable viewing; the menacing trio looked as if they might explode at any minute, and you couldn’t be sure where the tirade would be directed.
In a Stereo as busy as I’ve ever seen it, there were only a few who dared to sing out the words of the tracks off of the new album; having been leaked eight weeks before official release, and prompting a tongue-lashing from Falco on the band’s Myspace. But judging by the moshpit that erupted and continued for the entire duration of the set, with Kelson diving in at the end, bass-and-all; Future of the Left don’t look like they’ll be losing momentum anytime soon, leak or no leak, and with the NME giving coverage where they failed to do so with any of the members’ previous endeavours, it’d be worth catching this band before they get much bigger.
