singles for THE week beginning march 3 - reviewed by THE maccabees!

Released: Mon, 2008/03/03 on various indie schmindies
ARTROCKER RATING:
SINGLE OF THE WEEK: ADAM GREEN / MORNING AFTER MIDNIGHT (ROUGH TRADE)

Orlando: I like the screaming… that “Ooow!” thing. And the bit in the middle where the bongo dropped. And the “Cha Cha!” ending - so there’s alot going for it!

Felix: It sounds like Scott Walker which is a great thing. Adam Green is a great songwriter, he’s always trying to do something fun. Hats off to him! (takes imaginary hat off).
Are you looking for more juice? I have the urge to say something else... but when it ends up in print I'll regret it!
CUT OFF YOUR HANDS / OH GIRL (IAMSOUND) Orlando: I liked the dubby baseline… I like it! It sounds a bit like the Super Furries. FELIX: I think it’s a good pop song. It didn’t make my heart leap with excitement or anything, but it has enough going for it not to be too painful! 12 STONE TODDLER / COME BACK! (AMAZON) Orlando: Well the press release says it’s like Tim Burton but to me it sounded like the music on the new Toy Story film or something. It was quirky but in a weird way that wasn’t really for me. Felix: That’s not the kind of thing The Maccabees would listen to! Orlando: No, but one of us might… felix: Which one of us would listen to that? Orlando: Well… you know, I’m being diplomatic. Don’t tar us with your brush! There were some cool things but it was just a bit… theatrical. FOALS / CASSIUS (TRANSGRESSIVE) Orlando: It doesn’t sound like anything else does it? They’re consistently interesting, and it’s got a weird jazz lounge thing, from the time when Madness came out… it’s got all that weirdness going on. Felix: They’re obviously a band with alot of intent, and purpose. I think it’s gonna kick off for them this year - and it should because they’re obviously a great band. MARTINA TOPLEY BIRD / CARNIES (INDEPENDIENTE) Felix: It was hugely inoffensive. Orlando: It made me wanna be the bass player… but it’s not my kinda thing. Felix: Are you looking for more juice? I have the urge to say something else… but when it ends up in print I’ll regret it. So it’s fine!
