Photo Recap : Friendly Fires + White Lies + The Soft Pack
Friendly Fires, White Lies and The Soft Pack packed out Radio Radio and likely gave Indianapolis their only chance to see some or all of these bands in a club setting. Next time around, they’ll probably all be playing much larger venues at a much higher price. You can tell the plans surrounding these bands are already focused on that likelihood. Their crew brought in loads of extra/dramatic lighting that really highlighted certain songs and points during the show and took the whole show to that next level of grandeur.
The Soft Pack opened with their brand of spacey surf-garage rock, the perfect sound to loosen everyone up and set the right mood. The band was endearing and funny on top of being loud and raucous enough to shake loose a few teeth.
White Lies have the most "professional" feel of the three, which was suprising because they looked too fresh-faced to put up such an experienced front. Everything revolves around Harry McVeigh’s incredible voice, and rightfully so. It was a set filled with dramatic, retro-infused Brit rock.
Friendly Fires ended the night with a sweat-drenched dance party. Following the previous two emotionally-charged sets, the crowd was ready for that kind of release. It was raining outside, but many folks ended up wet from head to toe way before they ever left the club. Surrounding the stage, bodies thrashed and jumped in a frenzy.
In the end, show-goers got three very different, yet all equally enjoyable, sets. Post-show, it was interesting to hear so many different reactions. Some loved White Lies, some Friendly Fires, but overall everyone I talked to was thrilled with the show. Many said it was the best three-pack of bands Indianapolis was likely to see all year. There was truly something every rock fan in attendance.
