In Pictures: Force of the Street Guitars

Tue, 2009/03/31 - 10:39pm

Action for Brazil’s children, whose patron and co-founder is Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page, are putting on an exhibition and auction of 12 Gibson guitars which have been customised by street artists from Brazil and the UK, including D*Face, INKIE, Kid Acne, Remi/Rough, Will Barras, Pure Evil, Calma, Titi Freak, Speto, Tinho, Ramon Martins and Daniel Melim. The project is called ‘A Força da Rua: Force of the Street’ and will help raise funds and awareness for Brazil’s most vulnerable children. The guitars will be exhibited at theprintspace in East London before being auctioned at the end of April.

They are also running a competition where you are invited to submit your designs for customising a Gibson, with the opportunity to win a Gibson Les Paul Melody Maker and for the winning work to be featured as part of the exhibition. You can apply via the website www.forceofthestreet.com

The competition is hosted by a panel of judges including Cedar Lewisohn (Tate Modern curator), film maker Lorna Lavelle, *Tristan Manco* (Graffiti Brasil), Francesca Gavin, Dazed & Confused’s Visual Arts Editor, and UK graffiti kingpin INKIE
