The Breaks video. Planningtorock

Must see. New creepy fun video The Breaks by Planningtorock.

You are all invited to the Friends of Mine house party

He lives in a house a very big house in the cooountry.. ok, I’m showing my age and bad taste, but I’m getting excited (so it’s allowed).

The Friends of Mine festival is happening 20th - 22nd May just outside Manchester in the home of Joy Division (and the amazing David Dickenson) Macclesfield. As it’s in Cheshire the organisers have asked native Tim Burgess to curate the line up, well probably not just because he lived in Cheshire, but mostly for his impecable taste in music, I guess? So as you’d expect it’s full of proper gems, such as The Cribs, The Fall, Black Lips, and a host of indie charmers like Hatcham Social, The Whip, The Longcut and tea drinking Mr Scruff. In total it’s looks like well over 150 acts are playing over the 3 days with The Charlatans headlining on the Sunday night. The website www.fomfest.com also lists the Buzzcocks, The Wedding Present, Badly Drawn Boy as acts playing.

Steve Gullick's exhibition in Manchester.

A retrospective exhibition by legendary rock photographer Steve Gullick runs from March 12th til March 27th at the KRAAK Gallery, on Stevenson Square in the Northern Quarter, Manchester, featuring photos that were taken for NME and Melody Maker as well as his own publications Careless Talk Costs Lives and Loose Lips Sink Ships.

Tune-Yards, Trash Kit and Think About Life at Cargo 15th February 2010

Think about Life are a good time band. While their equally charming and chaotic musical palette of funk, electro and synth pop does have its moments, they simply don’t have enough to completely pull it off. It’s hard not to like front man Martin Cesar and co - their attempts at synchronised dancing, interacting warmly with the crowd and above all the energy they bring to their set deserves recognition and respect. Its just that tonight I don’t think its happening.

Surfer Blood - Live at Pure Groove Records

Surfer Blood - Live at Pure Groove Records, London. Monday 8th February 2010

Surfer Blood? By now, whether you like it or not you’ve heard something about Surfer Blood. Subject of much internet hype/ blog hysteria (their debut ASTRO COAST being touted as the first great record of 2010) SB are a five piece native of West Palm Beach Florida. Coming of a gruelling second half of 2009, which saw them notoriously blitz the CMG Music Marathon in October, indie front runners Surfer Blood find themselves in London briefly before a return to the states for another extensive tour.

So, it turns out Yeah Yeah Yeahs wrote Skeletons during a snowstorm. And so they wanted the video to reflect that feeling, they instructed Barney Clay when he turned up to direct. This is what he did:

Pixies and Minotaur

This, I would suggest, might be considered NSFW in the sense that to enjoy the lot of it, you’ll have to hope nobody sees what you’re doing. Pixies, pushing their Minotaur box sets, have released a 33 minute promo splurge:
