
Wildlife likes other creatures, especially Super Furry Animals. As such I was happy to get a telegram from SFA headquarters today letting me know that they are in Cardiff working their hairy paws off to complete the recording of their ninth studio album.
The as-yet untitled long player is due for digital release on the 16th of March through ww.superfurry.com, while the physical release will happen on the 13th of April through Rough Trade Records.
I went to the first night of the BBC Introducing…Sky Larkin and Pulled Apart By Horses tour at Bristol’s Louisiana last night. It was Ace. So ace it sold out. That Huw Stephens knows a good thing when he sees one, so it should tell you something that even though he had man flu he wasn’t home in his sickbed but out and watching them play last night AND he’s going along to the Cardiff gig to see them AGAIN tonight. They are that good.

Hello January. Hello Misery. At least for London’s West End London gig circuit for in this rock’n’rollover week has seen the closure of London’s sticky yet beloved Astoria, its sister venue LA2 and the sweaty indie dance box, Metro. Yes, folks, it’s true, the three classic live venues skirting Soho are all due for demolishment in preparation of a larger ticket hall at Tottenham Court Road tube station and the controversial Crossrail project.
All of Pinter’s christmases came at once, possibly, in 2008. He couldn’t have left us on a more fitting day. Early January 2009 seems far less fitting for a founding member of The Stooges, but alas, so it has come to be for Number 29 on Rolling Stone’s ‘100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.’

It’s a jungle out there for musicians. Even if you aren’t being stabbed on stage for playing badly, by your own band mate, you still have a struggle for survival on your hands.
